ABOUT THE SONG

The original outline for Unsure was formed 7 or 8 years ago and just continued to stick around asking for a chance to get more flushed out and realized...

As you can hear in the demo version – it started as this super bass heavy, sludgy, mucky song… like every second was another step through this bog of draining emotion.

As much as I felt that tone fit the vibe for the song – I realized the more I tinkered with lyrics, the more it started to feel like I was making a requiem of sorts…

It felt like there was room for a more peaceful backdrop to accompany the slow but aggressive, labored drum beat.  Those two sentiments came together to what you hear below…

Behind the Lyrics

This breakdown is a bit heavy and deals with addiction and depression – just as heads up before reading…

So this song was written from my viewpoint – seeing how depression and addiction can too easily meld together and end in death or suicide.

Slight backstory – I’ve been in the bartending/serving industry for over 10 years to support my music, and have met some of the most amazing people in that time.  Unfortunately, there’s an incredibly dark side to that industry as well, alcoholism and drug abuse are excused away as part of the fun, part of the unwinding after a long shift…

some people have good support systems and internal guiders that make that lifestyle navigable, but others can really find themselves lost in it.  And I met several great people that got lost… as I’m writing this, I just found out another co-worker of mine from years back just passed away from an overdose.

There were just so many stories while I was writing this song, that I couldn’t help but try to get my thoughts out on it…

So this song was me trying to put those feelings down into a story of how hard it was to see several co-workers and friends lose themselves to the combined disease of addiction and depression…

and how no matter what you tried to do to help them, there are some you just can’t help... but that takes quite a long time and is incredibly difficult to accept…

Studio Version

Unsure

There was this dream

Where you were lost out in the night

And when I came

You just proceeded to hide

I was unsure

Since you’d been weighted on down

If I could help

‘Cause you were keeping so proud

Now tell me where did you go?

Yea you were right

I tried turning in spite

But I could feel

That something’s gone bad now

‘Cause you were all

All that I’ve got

And now you’re gone

I’m staring straight in the fire now

Now where do I go?

And I’m about to fall

And I’m about to fall

And I’m about to fall apart

And I’m about to fall

I see your face

And I’ll reach out like it’s mine

I’ve been so sure

You’re out the corner of my eyes, how

How if you knew

Knew how I lack

But it’s not the point

All my retracing’s forming tracks now

Now tell me where do we go?

And I’m about to fall

And I’m about to fall

And I’m about to fall apart
