ABOUT THE SONG

Trials has been with me for over 10 years… I had demo-ed it out long ago, but was busy with my other bands at the time and it just ended up in the “listen to this demo later” folder I have (basically where my song ideas go to die)…

However on my travels while writing this record, I thought it’d be worthwhile to go through that folder a bit and see what I had thrown in there over the years…

This one quickly rose to the top of the most promising options. I made some tweaks to the song structure, built up the production, along with getting live drums and bass, and new vocals on it – and it really started to come alive!

Demo Versions and Previous Mixes

Behind the Lyrics

The lyrics for this song center around an amalgamation of several relationships I had back home in the bartending scene throughout my twenties…

The very fast paced, party fueled relationships that at some point one person gets over, and ends up ghosting the other… 👻 we've all had those... right? 🥵

Definitely played on both sides of that, and I think ultimately no matter which side I was on – both people end up feeling the same way about it…

“go on, you aren’t breaking my heart // go on, your trials are to start...”

Trials

Last night I woke up

From this bad dream girl

And I was tearing at my heart through my shirt

Didn’t get the meaning

Life kept repeating

And it took that time to see

What all of it was worth

Ah, come on

Think I remember

Westside apartment

Where we kept drinking at that place for days

When it came upon me

As if someone told me

That if I stayed here I was going to pay

For ya

Oooh

Oooh

Oooh

Aahh

So go ahead girl

Say that you love me

Say that you’re never gonna let me go

There’s some kind of warning

Some taste I’m tasting

Something would stop me if I had some self-control

But I don’t

‘Cause then where were you

When I hit the bottom

I’m so sorry to be baring my bones

Yea you were someone

Someone I wanted

But that means nothing if I need and you no show

Ah, come on

Oooh

Oooh

Oooh

Aahh

Go on

You aren’t breaking my heart girl

Well you are gonna find it some day

Yea you are gonna find it some day

Go on

Your trials are to start girl

And you are gonna find it some day

Yea you are gonna find it some day

Go on

You aren’t breaking my heart girl

And you are gonna find it some day

Yea you are gonna find it some day

Music Video

For this music Video - a buddy had some leftover footage that he was shooting...

so I cut it up and edited it together into a slight story that I felt fit the vibe of the song...

Hope you dig it! 🤙
