Comes n Goes

ABOUT THE SONG

Comes n Goes was written while I was in the full on production and recording phase in Austin, TX at the Music Lab (RIP – got torn down for a Tesla dealership 🙄).

So every couple days I’d take a break from what I was working on to see what else I could write since I was kinda in the zone at that point.  It all started with the guitar riff and a pretty rocking drum kit sample that I found.  Once those two things came together with a melody, I felt like I had something good.

Definitely got this The Fratellis vibe from it, so shaped the guitars to be similar and loved having the hook of “comes and it goes” – with the gang vocals behind it…

Thought it had a lot of energy and was a great way to start off the record 🤘

Behind the Lyrics

When putting this record together and choosing this batch of the songs – there was some definite intention on piecing together how my journey over the past 4 years or so had evolved.

From feeling fairly stuck back home, doing the same job, playing in the band one night a week to full on buying this van, converting it, and hitting the road to make this record.

Well along that thinking I thought it would be fun to sequentially try to place these songs in order on how events in that time transpired… this being the first of these songs, is kind of that launch off point.

It describes a relationship that has kind of run it’s course, but both sides stuck with the ups and downs of the relationship and wondering if they should just end it…

“If it’s worth saving, well let’s bring it back // But if it’s breaking, let’s break it!”

Studio Version

Comes n Goes

I came on in and I could see that you’re on

Count down the time ‘till it’s through

I was hard pressed

I didn’t know what I’d done

Now what’s this boy to do?

‘Cause it

Comes and it goes

Comes and it goes like this

Comes and it goes

Comes and it goes she says

Comes and it goes

Comes and it goes

It splits

If it’s worth saving

Well let’s bring it back

But if it’s breaking

Let’s break it

Like when your friends came in

I cleaned up, I charmed

I should’ve known it was doomed

So I felt around and tried to pull the alarm

I’m always digging my tomb

But it

Comes and it goes

Comes and it goes like this

Comes and it goes

Comes and it goes she says

Comes and it goes

Comes and it goes

It splits

If it’s worth saving

Well let’s bring it back

But if it’s breaking

Let’s break it

And it comes

And it comes

And it comes

And it goes

Live Recording Sessions

Recording Bass with Pablo Arruda

All of the songs on my record contained live elements from recording sessions with other incredibly talented musicians from all over the world.  This is one of those recording sessions featuring Pablo Arruda (who is currently in Sãn Paulo, Brazil at the time of this recording) and is the Bassist featured on all the songs for this record!
