ABOUT THE SONG

Ain’t Your Fool actually started as a challenge from a friend of mine...

He’s a very talented composer who I was working with and he gave me an assignment to create a song based within a structure…

All he gave me was the chordal outlines for each section of the song (based on a popular John Mayer song 🤐) and had me put it in whatever key and tempo I wanted.

That formed the outline of Ain’t Your Fool, but it really came alive when that lead hook melody in the pre-verse’s came out.  It started as a guitar line and then it was doubled by trumpets (as you can see in the video towards the bottom of the page)

the first time I ever recorded/wrote a trumpet part actually…

Behind the Lyrics

There have been several relationships in my life that have ended fairly abruptly, not from my choosing, and left me feeling unsure why it even had.

After many trials and errors, I was able to learn from these and get better at recognizing when things aren’t working...

This song is about utilizing what I had learned from those experiences, and making the confident choice for the betterment of myself to walk away from a toxic relationship…

“‘Cause I ain’t your fool // So I can go // So I will go”

Ain't Your Fool

Studio Version

Ain't Your Fool

I went and picked you up

It was a waste of time

You’re just like everyone

How you could fake so kind

And It’s the hardest part

To keep from blaming you

So tell me what you want

And what you want to do

So go and say it

Yea go and say it

I’ll go and say it

‘Cause I ain’t your fool

No I ain’t your fool

So I can go

So I will go

It’s like you’re holding out

For something better babe

But I will promise you

There’s no one else the same

So go and say it

Yea go and say it

I’ll go and say it

‘Cause I ain’t your fool

No I ain’t your fool

So I can go

So I will go

‘Cause I ain’t your fool

No I ain’t your fool

And I ain’t your fool

No I ain’t your fool

So I can go

So I will go
